Designed specifically for rim exit devices using up to a 1/2" Pullman latch, the 9400 mounts directly to the surface of compatible metal or wood frames. Its slim stainless-steel housing contains the strike components and solenoid, making it an excellent solution for retrofit openings where conventional recessed strike preparation is undesirable or impractical.

The 9400-630 features a 630 / US32D Satin Stainless Steel finish, field-selectable 12 or 24VDC operation, and field-selectable Fail Secure or Fail Safe operation.

Designed for 1/2" Pullman Rim Exit Devices

The HES 9400 is specifically engineered for compatible rim panic and fire-exit-device configurations using a Pullman-style latch measuring up to 1/2".

Unlike the HES 9500 or 9600 Series, which are intended for larger 3/4" Pullman latch applications, the 9400 provides a compact solution for compatible 1/2" latch configurations.

Surface-Mounted Installation

One of the biggest advantages of the 9400 Series is its no-cut installation.

The strike mounts directly to the face of the frame:

1. Position the strike against the frame.

2. Align it with the rim exit device latchbolt.

3. Adjust the strike horizontally as required.

4. Secure the strike to the frame.

5. Install the decorative cover.

No conventional electric-strike pocket needs to be cut into the frame.

Dual Voltage – 12 or 24VDC

The 9400 is field selectable for either:

12VDC:
500 mA continuous duty

24VDC:
250 mA continuous duty

This dual-voltage capability simplifies integration with common commercial access-control power supplies.

Fail Secure or Fail Safe

The strike can be field configured for either operating mode.

Fail Secure

The strike remains locked when power is removed and releases when properly energized.

Fail Safe

The strike unlocks when power is removed.

The correct configuration should be selected according to the opening's access-control, life-safety, and code requirements.

Grade 1 Commercial Performance

The HES 9400 is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1 and provides:

Fire-Rated Opening Note

The standard HES 9400 is not identified by HES as its 3-hour fire-rated rim exit device strike.

For applications requiring a 3-hour fire-rated surface-mounted strike, HES identifies the 9500 Series for compatible 3/4" Pullman latch rim exit devices. Always verify the listing requirements of the complete opening before specifying electrified hardware.

Important

Verify the exit device uses a compatible Pullman latch no larger than 1/2" before ordering.

Wood-frame installation is supported, but wood mounting screws are not included.
