Provide dependable traffic control for commercial hollow metal and wood doors with the Adams Rite 4920AN46-602-628 Heavy Duty Deadlatch.
Designed for doors prepared to ANSI hardware dimensions, the 4920AN provides a heavy-duty spring-loaded latchbolt with a key-controlled bolt holdback function. This allows the opening to operate with free two-way traffic during designated periods and then return to controlled entry while maintaining normal egress.
This exact configuration features a 1-1/2" backset, RH or LHR handing, flat armored faceplate, 4506-02 ANSI strike, and 628 Clear Anodized finish.

Key-Controlled Bolt Holdback
One of the primary features of the 4920AN is its bolt holdback function.
When the latchbolt is fully retracted, a reverse turn of the key can retain the bolt in the retracted position.
This allows the door to operate freely during periods when unrestricted two-way traffic is desired.
When the holdback is released, the spring-loaded latchbolt returns to normal operation.
This makes the deadlatch ideal for entrances that require:
-
Free access during business hours
-
Controlled entry after hours
-
Exit capability from inside the building
-
Key-controlled traffic management
Solid Brass Latchbolt
The 4920AN uses a heavy-duty:
Solid Brass Latchbolt
Approximate latchbolt dimensions:
-
5/8" high
-
1" wide
-
5/8" throw
The latchbolt is designed for demanding commercial applications and frequent operating cycles.
Auxiliary Latchpin
A stainless steel auxiliary latchpin works with the latchbolt to help prevent unauthorized manipulation.
When properly installed against the strike, the auxiliary feature deadlocks the main latchbolt to help resist:
-
Loiding
-
Credit-card attacks
-
Case-knife entry
-
Similar latch manipulation
1-1/2" Backset
This exact configuration uses:
1-1/2" Backset
In the Adams Rite ordering code:
4 = 1-1/2" Backset
Adams Rite also manufactures the 4920AN with a 2-3/4" backset, but that is a different configuration.
RH / LHR Handing
The ordering code:
6 = RH or LHR
This unit is therefore configured for:
-
Right Hand
-
Left Hand Reverse
The latchbolt itself can be reversed for handing without specialized tools, but the ordered configuration should still match the intended installation.
Flat Armored Faceplate
The deadlatch includes a heavy-duty:
1-1/4" x 8" Flat Armored Faceplate
The flat faceplate can also be field adjusted for compatible right- or left-beveled door edges.
Faceplate Finish
628 – Clear Anodized
This architectural finish coordinates with common clear-anodized commercial door hardware.
4506-02 ANSI Strike Included
The -602 configuration includes the:
Adams Rite 4506-02 Deadlatch Strike
The strike is designed for ANSI-prepared flat jamb applications.
Strike Finish
630 / US32D Satin Stainless Steel
The strike is stainless steel even though the deadlatch faceplate is 628 Clear Anodized.
ANSI Size Deadlatch
The 4920AN is specifically designed for:
-
Hollow metal doors
-
Wood doors
-
ANSI-prepared commercial openings
This differs from the standard Adams Rite 4900, which is primarily intended for aluminum stile applications.
Cylinder Requirements
The lock accepts a standard:
-
1" length mortise cylinder
-
1-5/32" diameter
-
Adams Rite MS cam
Compatible examples include the Adams Rite:
-
4036 Mortise Cylinder
-
4066 Thumbturn
Cylinder is sold separately.
The lock can accept cylinder operation from either or both sides depending on the complete door configuration.
Compatible Trim
Compatible Adams Rite trim options may include:
-
3080 Series Entry Trim
-
3080E Series
-
3090 Series
-

-

-
4590 / 4591 Paddles
-

Retrofit Compatibility
The 4920AN is designed to interchange, without stile modification, with compatible:
Adams Rite MS1850SN Deadlocks
when the existing opening has the same:
-
Backset
-
Faceplate configuration
-
Door preparation
This can make the 4920AN an excellent retrofit option when converting an existing commercial opening from a deadlock to a latch-style traffic-control system.
Replacement for Earlier Deadlatches
Adams Rite identifies the 4920AN as a replacement for:
