Designed to alert facility personnel when a protected door is opened, the EAX-500 produces an approximately 100 dB audible alarm when an unauthorized exit occurs. Its compact, tapered housing is designed for quick installation on commercial doors—including many narrow-stile aluminum doors—without requiring a hardwired power supply.

The EAX-500 is ideal for schools, retail stores, warehouses, hospitals, government buildings, and other facilities where an emergency exit must remain available for egress while unauthorized use needs to be immediately identified.

Battery-Powered Operation

Intelligent Automatic Handing

The EAX-500 uses an intelligent circuit that senses the location of the external magnet and automatically establishes the correct door handing.

This simplifies installation and makes the alarm suitable for a wide range of left- and right-hand commercial door applications.

The alarm features a tapered cover specifically designed to help accommodate narrow-stile commercial doors.

Key-Controlled Alarm Reset

Once the alarm has activated, it cannot simply be silenced by someone operating the door.

Detex specifies that the alarm can only be silenced using the proper control key, helping prevent unauthorized users from defeating the alarm after opening the door.

A compatible mortise cylinder is required and is sold separately unless specifically ordered with the unit.

Arming Indicators

The EAX-500 provides both:

Detex identifies the EAX-500 as a UL-Classified Miscellaneous Fire Door Accessory. Detex's fire-listing information identifies the EAX-500 and EAX-500W for UL 10B / UL 10C fire-door accessory applications up to 3 hours, subject to the complete listed opening.

The EAX-500 is an alarm accessory; it does not replace required exit hardware, positive-latching hardware, door closers, or other components required by the listed fire-door assembly.
