Provide dependable mechanical security in compact narrow-stile door applications with the Adams Rite 4070 Series Short Throw Deadbolt.
Designed for installations where a conventional long-throw Adams Rite MS® Deadlock cannot be accommodated, the smaller 4070 Series provides a conventionally projecting deadbolt with a 5/8" throw while fitting within limited narrow-stile space.
The lock operates with a simple 180° turn of the key or thumbturn and is available in multiple backsets and faceplate configurations for commercial aluminum-door applications.

Short Throw Deadbolt
The 4070 is designed specifically for openings where there is not enough stile depth or clearance for a traditional long-throw MS® deadlock.
It provides one of the longest practical conventional projected-bolt throws available within this compact narrow-stile format.
This makes it useful for:
-
Aluminum storefront doors
-
Narrow-stile entrances
-
Retrofit applications
-
Commercial openings with limited lock-case clearance
5/8" Bolt Throw
The projected bolt measures approximately:
5/8" x 1-1/4"
with a:
5/8" Throw
Unlike an MS® pivot or hookbolt, the 4070 uses a conventional straight projecting-bolt action.
180° Operation
A:
180° turn of the key or thumbturn
projects or retracts the deadbolt.
This means the lock requires only one-half turn for full operation.
The lock can accept compatible operating cylinders or thumbturns from:
-
One side
-
Both sides
depending on the required configuration.
Backset Options
The 4070 Series is available with:
-
7/8" Backset
-
31/32" Backset
-
1-1/8" Backset
These are the only standard backset options listed by Adams Rite.
Always verify the existing door preparation before ordering.
Special 4070 Cylinder Cam Required
Although the 4070 accepts a standard-size mortise cylinder, it requires a special cam configuration.
Cylinder Size
Length: 1"
Diameter: 1-5/32"
Required Cam
The 4070 requires a modified cam measuring approximately:
.850" from the center of the cylinder to the end of the cam / tailpiece
A standard MS® cam should not automatically be assumed compatible.
Compatible cylinders and thumbturns can be ordered with the proper 4070 cam configuration.
Common Adams Rite options include:
-
4036 Mortise Cylinder
-
4066 Thumbturn
when supplied with the proper 4070 cam.
Lock Case
The lock case measures approximately:
Width: 1"
Height: 6"
Case depth varies depending on the selected backset.
Construction
Material: Steel
Finish: Corrosion-resistant plating
Faceplate
The standard faceplate measures approximately:
1" x 5-9/16"
Several faceplate configurations are available.
4070 – Flat Faceplate
Designed for compatible flat-edge door preparations.
4071 – Radius Faceplate
Designed for compatible radius-edge door preparations.
4072 – Beveled Faceplate
Designed for beveled door-edge applications.
The beveled version requires the correct handing.
4073-XX-IB
Lock body supplied:
Without Faceplate / Without Strike Plate
for applicable special-order installations.
Handing
Flat & Radius Faceplates
Generally non-handed.
Beveled Faceplate
The 4072 requires handing selection:
-
LH / RHR
-
RH / LHR
Verify door handing before ordering a beveled-faceplate model.
Strike Configuration
Metal Jamb Applications
For metal frame installations, a properly prepared slot in the jamb typically serves as the strike.
A separate strike plate is therefore not included as standard.
Wood Applications
The optional:
Adams Rite 4170 Trim Strike
is available separately for compatible wood-frame installations.
Not for Bottom Rail Installation
The 4070 Series is specifically not designed for bottom-rail installation.
For an application requiring a bottom-rail deadbolt, select an Adams Rite product specifically designed for that purpose.
Finish Options
Current standard finish options include:
-
628 – Clear Anodized Aluminum
-
313 – Dark Bronze Anodized
-
335 – Black Anodized
Finish availability may depend on the selected faceplate configuration.
