Upgrade or replace the locking hardware on a narrow-stile commercial entrance with the Adams Rite 4530 Standard Duty Deadlatch.
Designed for aluminum storefront and narrow-stile door applications, the 4530 provides dependable spring-loaded latch operation with convenient mechanical holdback, allowing the opening to switch between controlled entry and free passage.
The 4530 is especially useful as a retrofit replacement for older Adams Rite MS1850 Series Deadlocks and discontinued 4250 Deadlatches with the same backset and existing door preparation.

Flexible Traffic Control
The 4530 is designed for commercial openings that require different traffic-control conditions during the day.
During normal secure operation, the latchbolt automatically engages the strike when the door closes.
For periods when unrestricted entry is desired, the latchbolt can be mechanically held retracted.
This provides:
Locked / Controlled Entry
when the latchbolt is active,
and
Free Passage
when the latchbolt is held retracted.
Mechanical Latch Holdback
The 4530 includes a mechanical:
Bolt Holdback Function
To hold the latchbolt retracted:
-
Fully depress or retract the latchbolt
-
Reverse-turn the key
-
The latchbolt remains retracted
This allows the door to operate freely during business hours without continuously operating the latch.
To restore normal latching, release the holdback using the cylinder.
Spring-Loaded Latchbolt
The 4530 uses an all-metal spring-loaded latchbolt with hardened internal steel pins.
Latchbolt Size
Approximately:
1/2" x 1"
Throw
1/2"
The latchbolt automatically projects when the door closes.
Auxiliary Deadlocking Bolt
The 4530 incorporates an:
Auxiliary Deadlocking Bolt
When the door is properly closed against the strike, the auxiliary bolt prevents the main latchbolt from being pushed back with a knife, card, or similar object.
This helps protect against common:
Loiding / Case-Knife Entry Attempts
Reversible Handing
The latchbolt handing is:
Reversible
and can be changed without special tools.
The appropriate handing should still be specified when ordering whenever possible.
Typical handing configurations include:
-
LH – Left Hand
-
RH – Right Hand
-
LHR – Left Hand Reverse
-
RHR – Right Hand Reverse
Backset Options
The Adams Rite 4530 is available with the following backsets:
-
7/8"
-
31/32"
-
1-1/8"
Important
The backset must match the existing door preparation.
Adams Rite defines backset as the distance from the edge/front of the door stile to the centerline of the cylinder.
Incorrect backset selection will prevent proper fit.
Faceplate Models
The 4530 Series is available with several faceplate configurations.
4530
Flat Faceplate
4531
Radius Faceplate
4532
Bevel Faceplate
4533
Lock Body Without Faceplate or Strike
The correct faceplate should be selected to match the existing aluminum door stile.
Faceplate Size
Standard 4530 faceplates measure approximately:
1-1/4" x 7-13/32"
The 4530 faceplate is larger than the standard 4510 faceplate because the 4530 is specifically designed around older MS-style retrofit preparations.
Retrofit Application
The 4530 is particularly useful where an existing opening was originally prepared for:
-
Older Adams Rite MS1850 Series Deadlock
-
Discontinued Adams Rite 4250 Deadlatch
-
Compatible legacy MS-style preparation
The lock can fit these existing preparations without requiring major alteration when the correct backset and faceplate are selected.
Important – Retrofit vs. New Installation
The 4530 is primarily a retrofit product.
For most new installations, the Adams Rite 4510 Series is generally the preferred standard-duty deadlatch.
The 4530 uses a larger legacy-style faceplate, so installing it on a new opening may make future replacement with standard-size hardware more difficult.
Mortise Cylinder Compatibility
The 4530 accepts standard:
1" Length Mortise Cylinders
with approximately:
1-5/32" Diameter
and an Adams Rite:
MS Cam
Compatible examples include the Adams Rite:
4036 Mortise Cylinder
A compatible thumbturn such as the:
4066 Thumbturn
may also be used depending on the opening.
Cylinders and thumbturns are sold separately.
Cylinder Operation
The lock can accept cylinder operation from:
-
Exterior side
-
Interior side
-
Both sides
depending on the door configuration and trim selected.
Compatible Trim
The 4530 can be combined with compatible Adams Rite operating trim including:
-
4560 Series Deadlatch Handles
-
4565 Deadlatch Handles
-
4568 / 4569 Eurostyle Handles
-
4590 Paddle
-
4591 Paddle
-
4600 Series Deadlatch Handles
-
3090 Series Keyless Entry trim

-
Door handing
-

Lock Case Construction
Material: Steel
Protection: Corrosion-Resistant Plating
Approximate Case Size
1" Wide x 5-13/16" High

Door Thickness
Adams Rite deadlatches are generally intended for commercial doors approximately:
1-3/4" thick or greater
They are not recommended for doors thinner than 1-3/4".
