1" Throw Deadbolt
The ECL-230D uses a rugged:
1" Throw Single-Point Deadbolt
The bolt extends into the compatible keeper to provide substantial physical security against attempts to pull or force the door open.
Detex also identifies the deadbolt as saw resistant, helping provide additional resistance against physical attack.
More Than 2,200 lb Pull Resistance
Detex rates the ECL-230D's attack-resistant design to withstand:
More Than 2,200 lb of Exterior Pull Force
This heavy-duty construction makes the ECL-230D especially suitable for secondary exits where physical security and loss prevention are major concerns.
100 dB Exit Alarm
Unauthorized operation produces a loud:
100 Decibel Alarm
The audible alarm alerts employees, security personnel, and nearby occupants that the protected exit has been operated.
Typical applications include:
-
Rear retail exits
-
Warehouse exits
-
Stockroom doors
-
Shipping and receiving doors
-
Employee-only exits
-
Restricted secondary exits
-
Commercial emergency exit doors
9V Battery Powered
The ECL-230D alarm is powered by a:
9-Volt Battery
The current Detex factory package includes the battery, allowing the alarm system to operate without requiring line-voltage power at the opening.
This makes the ECL-230D particularly useful for retrofit installations where running additional wiring may be undesirable.
Automatic Alarm Arming & Disarming
The ECL-230D coordinates the deadbolt and alarm functions.
Detex specifies that:
Locking the deadbolt arms the alarm.
Unlocking the deadbolt disarms the alarm.
This straightforward design helps prevent the door from being mechanically secured while accidentally leaving the alarm disabled.
Key Required to Reset Alarm
Once the ECL-230D has been activated, Detex specifies that the alarm can only be reset using the appropriate control key.
This helps prevent unauthorized users from simply silencing the alarm after operating the protected exit.
Photoluminescent Metal Paddle
The standard ECL-230D includes Detex's short:
ECL-8220 Metal Photoluminescent English Paddle Plate
The plate absorbs ambient light and remains visible when lighting conditions are reduced.
The standard English plate provides highly visible emergency-exit and alarm-warning instructions directly on the operating paddle.
Short-Bar ECL-230D Configuration
This listing is for the standard:
ECL-230D Short Bar
Detex also offers the separate:
ECL-230D-PH Long Bar
for openings requiring the longer panic-hardware bar configuration on 36" to 48" doors.
Do not confuse the standard ECL-230D with the ECL-230D-PH when replacing an existing unit.
Rim Cylinder Compatibility
The ECL-230D accepts compatible:
-
5-pin rim cylinders
-
6-pin rim cylinders
-
7-pin rim cylinders
-
Standard rim cylinders
-
Interchangeable-core rim cylinders
Detex factory literature states that the rim cylinder is required and sold separately.
Before ordering the cylinder, verify:
-
Keyway
-
Keying
-
Core format
-
Facility master-key system
-
Finish
Non-Handed Design
The ECL-230D is:
Non-Handed
This simplifies inventory and installation for compatible left- and right-hand commercial door openings.

Typical concerns include:
-
Employee theft
-
Customer theft
-
Unauthorized rear-door use
-
Unauthorized removal of merchandise
-
Restricted-area access
-
After-hours exit activity
Detex specifically markets the ECL-230D as a loss-prevention solution for secondary exits.
Important Fire-Rated Door Note
The standard ECL-230D is not the Detex fire-rated ECL model.
For fire-rated applications, Detex offers the separate:
ECL-600 Fire Exit Hardware
The ECL-600 is the listed fire-rated configuration and should be used where the opening requires fire exit hardware.
Always verify the door, frame, hardware, and complete opening requirements before specifying exit-control hardware on a rated assembly.
Weatherized Applications
For exterior or harsh-environment installations, Detex directs users to its separate ECL-230X weatherized configurations rather than the standard ECL-230D.
