SVR stands for Surface Vertical Rod.

A surface vertical rod exit device uses exposed rods running vertically along the face of the door to operate the top and, depending on the configuration, bottom latch assemblies.

When the door is taller than the standard rod configuration accommodates, an extension rod allows the rod assembly to reach the required latch location.

Installation Notes

Proper vertical-rod adjustment is important for reliable exit-device operation.

After installation:

• Verify top-latch engagement

• Verify bottom-latch engagement where applicable

• Confirm rods move freely

• Check push-pad operation

• Verify positive latching

• Cycle the door multiple times

• Confirm the door releases easily from the egress side

Fire Door Note

When modifying vertical rods on a fire-rated exit device, use only compatible components approved for the specific fire exit hardware configuration.

The complete door, frame, exit device, rods, latches, strikes, and installation must maintain the required fire-door listing.
