Fire-Rated Concealed Door Loop | Mortise-Mount Power Transfer | Flexible Steel Conduit
Provide a protected, tamper-resistant wiring path between the door frame and electrified door hardware with the SDC PT-5 Concealed Mortise Power Transfer Loop.
Designed by Security Door Controls (SDC), the PT-5 mounts into a mortised preparation in the door frame, keeping the flexible power-transfer loop concealed when the door is closed.
It provides a simple method of routing field-supplied wiring from the frame into compatible electric locks, exit devices, monitoring hardware, and other access-control components.
Unlike SDC's surface-mounted PT loops, the PT-5 is specifically UL 10C listed for 3-hour fire-rated door applications.
Key Features
-
Genuine SDC / Security Door Controls
-
Model PT-5
-
Concealed mortise-mount power transfer loop
-
Heavy-duty commercial construction
-
Frame-mortised steel dust box
-
Flexible steel power-transfer loop
-
Approximately 3/8" inside diameter
-
Chrome-finished loop assembly
-
Concealed when the door is closed
-
Provides protected wiring path from frame to door
-
Designed for electrified locks and exit devices
-
UL 10C Positive Pressure – 3 Hour
-
Fire-door accessory application
-
Supports door opening up to approximately 120°
-
Recommended for hollow metal and compatible aluminum-frame applications
-
Ideal for access control, retrofit, and new construction applications
Concealed Mortise Design
The PT-5 installs into the frame rather than remaining fully exposed on the surface.
When the door closes, the flexible steel loop retracts into the mortised housing, providing a cleaner and more protected installation than a conventional exposed armored door loop.
Benefits include:
-
Improved tamper resistance
-
Reduced exposed conduit
-
Cleaner architectural appearance
-
Protected field wiring
-
Better suitability for secure commercial openings
Power & Data Transfer
The PT-5 provides a pathway for field-installed electrical conductors between the stationary frame and the moving door.
Typical applications include:
-
Electrified mortise locks
-
Electrified cylindrical locks
-
Electrified exit devices
-
Electric latch retraction
-
Motorized latch retraction
-
Electrified trim
-
Request-to-exit devices
-
Door-position monitoring
-
Access-control circuits
-
Other compatible low-voltage door hardware
The PT-5 is a wire pathway, so conductor type and quantity should be selected according to the connected device.
Flexible Steel Loop
The PT-5 uses a flexible steel loop designed to move as the door opens and closes.
SDC's current documentation identifies the loop at approximately:
0.35" to 3/8" Inside Diameter
This provides space for field-selected conductors while maintaining a compact concealed assembly.
Mortised Steel Dust Box
The PT-5 includes a steel housing designed to be mortised into the frame.
Overall housing dimensions are approximately:
-
Height: 11-1/2"
-
Width: 1"
-
Depth: 3/4"
These dimensions should be verified against the existing frame preparation before installation.
Up to 120° Door Opening
SDC specifies the PT-5 for door movement up to approximately:
120°
Actual available opening angle depends on:
-
Frame preparation
-
Door geometry
-
Installation location
-
Wall clearance
-
Adjacent hardware
-
Conduit routing
The loop should never be stretched or pinched at the door's maximum opening position.
Fire-Rated Door Applications
A major advantage of the PT-5 over SDC's standard surface loops is its fire-door listing.
SDC identifies the PT-5 as:
-
UL Listed Miscellaneous Fire Door Accessory
-
UL 10C Positive Pressure compliant
-
Suitable for 3-hour fire-rated door applications
-
UBC 7-2 fire-test compliant according to current SDC literature
The complete door, frame, hardware, wiring, and installation must still comply with the requirements of the rated opening.
