Add external signaling or entrance-light control to an Aiphone GT Series intercom system with the Aiphone GT-RY External Signaling / Option Relay.
The GT-RY provides a normally open relay contact that can be used to activate compatible external devices when an entrance or guard station calls a tenant. It can also be configured to activate an entrance light while the tenant is communicating with the entrance station.
Compact and system-powered, the GT-RY is ideal for applications requiring an additional buzzer, notification device, or automatic entrance lighting.

External Call Signaling
The GT-RY can provide a contact closure when a compatible GT Series tenant station receives a call.
This allows the system to activate an additional notification device such as:
-
Buzzer
-
Bell
-
Auxiliary sounder
-
Visual indicator
-
Interface relay
-
Other compatible low-voltage signaling equipment
This is useful where the normal tenant-station call tone may not be loud enough or may not be heard throughout the space.
Additional Buzzer Operation
When configured for external signaling, the GT-RY can activate an additional buzzer when a call is received from a compatible:
-
GT Series entrance station
-
GT Series security guard station
Aiphone specifies that the external buzzer output operates for approximately:
10 Seconds
during the incoming call, in addition to the normal tenant-station call tone.
Entrance Light Control
The GT-RY can also be used to automatically activate an entrance light.
When a GT Series entrance station calls a tenant:
-
The entrance station initiates the tenant call
-
The GT-RY activates
-
The connected entrance light turns on
-
The light remains active while communication continues
-
The relay releases when the tenant terminates communication
This can improve visitor visibility at entrances during low-light conditions.
Normally Open Contact
The GT-RY provides a Normally Open contact output.
Maximum rating:
24V AC/DC, 0.5A
The connected load must remain within the GT-RY's electrical rating.
For equipment exceeding this rating, use the GT-RY to operate an appropriately rated secondary relay or interface.
24VDC Operation
The GT-RY requires:
24VDC
In GT Series applications, its input is connected through the applicable entrance or tenant-station option connection according to the required function.
A separate local power supply is not normally connected directly to the relay when installed according to Aiphone's standard GT Series diagrams.
Tenant Station Option Connector
For external signaling at a tenant station, Aiphone requires the option connector supplied with the applicable tenant station.
The GT-RY connects to the designated RY / RY option wiring.
Applicable GT tenant equipment can include current stations such as:
-
GT-1A – Audio Open-Voice Tenant Station
-
GT-1D – Audio Handset Tenant Station
-
GT-1M3 – 3.5" Video Tenant Station
-
GT-1C7 – 7" Video Tenant Station
Always verify the specific option connector and terminal assignment for the tenant station being installed.
GT-RY Wiring Leads
The GT-RY includes factory leads for connection to the intercom system and controlled device.
Input Side
-
White
-
Blue
-
Black
The black wire may remain unused in applicable GT-RY configurations.
Output Side
-
Orange
-
Orange
The orange leads provide the relay output connection to the compatible external device.
Always follow the current Aiphone wiring diagram for the selected application.
Entrance Light Connection
For entrance-light operation, the GT-RY interfaces with compatible GT Series entrance audio equipment such as:
GT-DB – Audio Module
The GT-RY connects to the appropriate relay/option terminals on the entrance electronics and controls the external light circuit through its output.
Aiphone notes:
One GT-RY is required for each entrance station when used for this application.
GT-DB Compatibility
The:
GT-DB – GT Series Audio Module
provides the audio and door-release functions within a modular GT entrance station.
The GT-RY can interface with the GT-DB for applications requiring entrance-light control during visitor communication.
The GT-RY does not replace the GT-DB door-release relay.
GT-RY vs. Door Release Relay
The GT-RY should not be confused with the main GT entrance door-release output.
GT-RY
Rated:
24V AC/DC, 0.5A
Used primarily for:
-
External signaling
-
Additional buzzer
-
Entrance lighting
-
Auxiliary control
GT-DB Door Release Relay
Rated:
24V AC/DC, 4A
Used primarily for:
-
Electric strike control
-
Magnetic lock interfaces
-
Door-release applications
Use the appropriate relay according to the intended load and function.
External Device Power
The GT-RY provides a contact closure, not operating power for the external device.
The connected:
-
Buzzer
-
Light
-
Bell
-
Relay
-
Signaling appliance
must have its own appropriate power source when required.
Do not exceed the GT-RY maximum contact rating of:
24V AC/DC, 0.5A
Compatible System Applications
The GT-RY is useful in applications such as:
Apartment Units
Activate an auxiliary buzzer where the resident may not hear the normal intercom tone.
Commercial Offices
Trigger an external notification device in a reception or warehouse area.
Entrance Lighting
Automatically illuminate the visitor entrance during an active intercom call.
Hearing / Notification Applications
Use the contact to interface an appropriate visual signaling device or secondary relay.
Remote Signaling
Extend incoming-call notification to another location within the tenant space.
Compact Design
The GT-RY measures only:
1-3/8" H × 2-3/16" W × 7/8" D
Its small size makes it suitable for installation inside appropriate:
-
Low-voltage enclosures
-
Equipment cabinets
-
Junction areas
-
Intercom equipment spaces
Always maintain accessibility and follow applicable electrical codes.
Current Aiphone Applications
While primarily associated with the GT Series, Aiphone also currently documents the GT-RY for selected external-signaling applications with newer equipment such as the IXG-2C7 IP video tenant station.
System-specific wiring varies, so use the appropriate Aiphone wiring diagram for the equipment being installed.
TAA Compliant
Aiphone lists the GT-RY as:
TAA Compliant
This can make it suitable for applicable government, institutional, and federally funded projects requiring TAA-compliant equipment.
