Add electric access control and advanced lock/door monitoring to a commercial opening with the ACSI ACL9080EU/EL-LMDPS Electrified Mortise Lock Body.
Built around the Schlage L9080 mortise-lock platform, this configuration combines field-selectable Fail Safe / Fail Secure electrification with two important monitoring functions:
-
LM – Latch Bolt Monitor
-
DPS – Door Position Sensor
The result allows an access-control system to monitor both whether the main latchbolt is fully extended and whether the door itself is open or closed.
The lock supports 12VAC, 12VDC, 24VAC, or 24VDC operation and is designed for commercial access-control and life-safety applications.

LM – Latch Bolt Monitor
The LM option provides a dedicated:
Latch Bolt Monitor
The switch monitors the:
Full Extension of the Main Latchbolt
This allows the access-control or security system to verify that the latchbolt has extended into its normal latched position.
LM Monitoring Can Help Determine
-
Latch fully extended
-
Latch not fully extended
-
Door hardware not properly latched
-
Possible door or strike alignment problems
-
Door closed but latch not completely engaged
This provides information that a standard door-position switch alone cannot provide.
DPS – Door Position Sensor
The DPS option monitors the actual position of the door.
ACSI incorporates a:
Magnetic Sensor in the Mortise Lock
that reacts to a:
Magnet Mounted Behind the ASA Strike
When the door reaches the closed position, the magnet and sensor align and provide the appropriate monitoring signal.
DPS Can Monitor
-
Door open
-
Door closed
-
Door held open
-
Door failing to return to the closed position
The access-control panel determines how these status changes are interpreted and reported.
LM + DPS Dual Monitoring
Combining Latch Bolt Monitoring and Door Position Monitoring gives the access-control system more detailed information about the opening.
A DPS alone can indicate that the door has returned to the frame.
The LM adds verification that the:
Main Latchbolt Has Fully Extended
Together, the system can better determine whether the opening is actually closed and properly latched.
Example – Door Closed and Secure
DPS = Door Closed
and
LM = Latchbolt Fully Extended
This indicates that the door has returned to the frame and the main latch has extended.
Example – Door Closed but Not Properly Latched
DPS = Door Closed
but
LM = Latchbolt Not Fully Extended
This may indicate:
-
Door misalignment
-
Binding hardware
-
Strike alignment problems
-
Latch obstruction
-
Door not completely seated in the frame
This makes the LMDPS configuration useful for openings where positive latch verification is important.
Field-Selectable Fail Safe / Fail Secure
The ACL9080EU/EL-LMDPS provides selectable electrical locking operation.
EU – Fail Secure / Power Unlock
In the Fail Secure configuration:
Power Applied = Outside Trim Unlocked
Power Removed = Outside Trim Locked
If electrical power is lost, the exterior side remains secured.
This is commonly used where maintaining security during a power failure is required.
EL – Fail Safe / Power Lock
In the Fail Safe configuration:
Power Applied = Outside Trim Locked
Power Removed = Outside Trim Unlocked
If electrical power is lost, the exterior side becomes unlocked.
Fail-safe operation may be required for specific life-safety or emergency-release applications.
Fail Mode Selection
Fail-safe versus fail-secure operation should be selected according to:
-
Building code requirements
-
Fire code requirements
-
Security requirements
-
Life-safety requirements
-
Fire-alarm sequence
-
Access-control design
-
Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements
Electrified L9080-Style Function
The ACL9080EU/EL-LMDPS is based on the Schlage L9080-style electrified mortise-lock function.
Typical operation includes:
Outside Lever
Electrically locked or unlocked according to the selected EU/EL function.
Inside Lever
Provides mechanical egress according to the lock configuration.
Main Latchbolt
Monitored by the LM switch to verify full extension.
Door Position
Monitored by the DPS magnetic sensor.
Key Cylinder
A compatible mortise cylinder can provide mechanical override when required.
Mechanical Key Override
When equipped with the appropriate mortise cylinder, the latchbolt may be momentarily retracted mechanically by key even when the outside trim is electrically locked.
The lock then returns to its normal electrical control condition after mechanical key operation.
12 / 24 VAC or DC Operation
The ACSI Series 1500 platform supports:
-
12VAC
-
12VDC
-
24VAC
-
24VDC
This allows the lock to integrate with a wide variety of commercial access-control power systems.
Before installation, verify:
-
System voltage
-
AC or DC operation
-
Power-supply capacity
-
Wire gauge
-
Wire distance
-
Power-transfer capacity
-
Relay ratings
Continuous-Duty Operation
The electrified lock platform is:
Continuous-Duty Rated
This allows the electrical locking function to remain energized for extended periods when properly powered.
Typical applications include:
-
Scheduled access
-
Business-hours unlocking
-
Controlled office entrances
-
Stairwell doors
-
Secure rooms
-
Institutional access control
Access-Control Integration
The ACL9080EU/EL-LMDPS can interface with compatible:
-
Access-control panels
-
Card readers
-
Keypads
-
Mobile credential systems
-
Time schedules
-
Building management systems
-
Security-management systems
-
Remote release switches
-
Fire-alarm interfaces
Advanced Door Status Monitoring
The combination of LM and DPS can provide useful information to the access-control system.
Depending on system programming, the controller may distinguish between:
-
Door open
-
Door closed
-
Door properly latched
-
Door closed but latch not extended
-
Door held open
-
Door failing to secure
This can improve troubleshooting and security reporting on monitored openings.
LM vs. RX
The LM option should not be confused with RX / Authorized Egress monitoring.
LM
Latch Bolt Monitor
Monitors whether the main latchbolt is fully extended.
RX / AE
Request to Exit / Authorized Egress
Monitors operation of the inside trim.
Therefore:
ACL9080EU/EL-RX monitors egress activity.
ACL9080EU/EL-LMDPS monitors latchbolt extension and door position.
DPS Installation
The DPS system uses:
-
Magnetic sensor incorporated into the mortise lock
-
Magnet located behind the compatible ASA strike
Correct magnet-to-sensor alignment is important for reliable monitoring.
ASA Strike Requirement
Because the DPS magnet is positioned at the strike location, verify:
-
Strike type
-
Frame preparation
-
Strike alignment
-
Door/frame clearances
before installation.
Life-Safety Integration
ACSI Series 1500 electrified mortise locks are designed to interface with compatible life-safety systems.
Depending on the opening, the system may be integrated with:
-
Fire alarm controls
-
Emergency release circuits
-
Stairwell unlocking
-
Security systems
-
Building access-control systems
The required operating sequence depends on the selected electrical function and applicable code requirements.
