Provide heavy-duty mechanical security for compatible sliding doors with the Adams Rite 2331 Heavy Duty Deadbolt.
Designed for hollow metal and wood sliding-door applications, the 2331 uses a large brass deadbolt that projects into the strike and then expands two stainless-steel locking dogs above and below the main bolt.
This expanding-bolt design provides positive mechanical engagement inside the strike while allowing the complete lock to be operated with a single turn of the key or thumbturn.

Expanding Deadbolt Design
The 2331 operates differently from a conventional straight deadbolt.
When locked:
-
The main brass bolt projects horizontally into the strike.
-
Two stainless-steel dogs expand above and below the main bolt.
-
The expanded bolt assembly becomes mechanically captured within the strike.
This provides strong positive engagement for compatible sliding-door applications.
Main Bolt
The 2331 uses a brass main bolt measuring approximately:
1/2" x 1-1/2"
Horizontal Throw
3/4"
Once the main bolt is projected into the strike, the stainless-steel dogs expand to secure the lock.
Stainless-Steel Expansion Dogs
The two locking dogs expand:
11/32" above and below the main bolt
These dogs provide the secondary locking action that distinguishes the 2331 from a conventional sliding-door deadbolt.
360° Operation
A complete:
360° turn of the key or thumbturn
projects and expands the bolt or retracts and withdraws it.
The key cannot be removed unless the bolt is:
-
Fully locked, or
-
Completely retracted
This helps ensure the lock is positively positioned before the key is removed.
No Latch Action
The 2331 is a:
Deadbolt Only
There is no spring-latch function.
The lock must be manually projected or retracted using the appropriate cylinder or thumbturn.
1-3/4" Backset
The Adams Rite 2331 is available with one backset only:
1-3/4" Backset
Before ordering, carefully verify the door preparation.
The backset is measured from the front edge of the door to the centerline of the cylinder.
Sliding-Door Application
The 2331 is designed specifically for heavy-duty sliding-door applications including compatible:
-
Hollow metal sliding doors
-
Wood sliding doors
-
Commercial sliding partitions
-
Industrial sliding doors
-
Institutional sliding openings
This is not the same application as the Adams Rite MS1850S straight-bolt lock typically used on swinging narrow-stile doors.
Mortise Cylinder Compatibility
The 2331 accepts a standard:
1" long x 1-5/32" diameter mortise cylinder
Adams Rite's current technical guidance specifies the 2331 uses a standard straight cylinder cam.
Compatible cylinder and thumbturn options may include:
-
Adams Rite 4036 Mortise Cylinder
-
Adams Rite 4066 Thumbturn
Always verify the required cam configuration with the selected cylinder before ordering.
The lock can accept operating hardware from:
-
One side, or
-
Both sides
depending on the desired door configuration.
Lock Case
The 2331 lock case measures approximately:
Width: 7/8"
Height: 3-5/8"
Depth: 2-5/8"
Case Material: Zinc Alloy
Verify adequate internal door clearance before preparing the opening.
Armored Faceplate
The brass armored faceplate measures approximately:
1" Wide x 5-3/4" High
The flat faceplate is available in multiple architectural finishes.

The 2331 includes a heavy-duty strike specifically designed to receive the expanding bolt.
Strike Dimensions
