Provide flexible traffic control for commercial aluminum doors with the Adams Rite 4510 Series Standard Duty Deadlatch.
Designed for narrow-stile storefront applications, the 4510 combines a spring-loaded latchbolt with key-controlled holdback, allowing the opening to transition between normal latching, exit-only operation, and unrestricted two-way traffic.
The 4510 fits the standard Adams Rite MS® preparation and can replace a compatible MS1850S Deadlock of the same backset and faceplate shape without modifying the door stile.

Flexible Traffic Control
The 4510 is designed for commercial openings that need different levels of access throughout the day.
During normal operation, the spring-loaded latch automatically engages the strike when the door closes.
A key, lever, or paddle retracts the latchbolt for entry.
The latch can also be held retracted for unrestricted two-way traffic during business hours.
Key-Controlled Holdback
The 4510 includes a built-in:
Latchbolt Holdback Function
To hold the latch retracted:
-
Fully depress the latchbolt.
-
Reverse-turn the key one full turn.
-
The latchbolt remains retracted.
This allows the door to operate freely without latching.
To restore normal latching, depress the latchbolt and rotate the key in the release direction.
This feature is useful for:
-
Retail stores
-
Office buildings
-
Healthcare facilities
-
Financial institutions
-
Schools
-
Commercial entrances
Latchbolt
The 4510 uses an all-metal latchbolt with hardened-steel internal pins.
Latchbolt Dimensions
1/2" x 1"
Throw
1/2"
The latchbolt is spring loaded and automatically engages the strike when the door closes.
Auxiliary Deadlatch
An all-metal auxiliary bolt deadlocks the main latchbolt when properly engaged with the strike.
This helps resist common bypass methods such as:
-
Loiding
-
Shimming
-
Case-knife entry
Correct strike alignment is important for the auxiliary deadlatch to function properly.
Backset Options
Available cylinder backsets:
-
7/8"
-
31/32"
-
1-1/8"
-
1-1/2"
Important
Backset is measured from the front edge of the door to the centerline of the cylinder.
Verify the existing door preparation before ordering.
MS® Prep Retrofit
One of the major advantages of the 4510 is its compatibility with the Adams Rite MS® preparation.
A 4510 can replace a compatible:
MS1850S Series Deadlock
without modifying the door stile when the:
-
Backset matches
-
Faceplate shape matches
-
Existing preparation is compatible
Security Note
The 4510 is designed primarily for traffic control.
It does not provide the same maximum-security deadbolt protection as an Adams Rite MS® Deadlock.
Lock Case
The case is constructed from:
Corrosion-Resistant Plated Steel
Approximate Dimensions
1" Wide x 5-13/16" High
Case depth varies according to the selected backset.
Faceplate
Faceplate dimensions:
1" x 6-7/8"
The correct faceplate shape must be specified when ordering to match the existing door edge.
Available configurations include compatible:
-
Flat
-
Radius
-
Beveled
door-edge preparations.
Field-Reversible Handing
The 4510 latch handing can be reversed in the field.
Important
Although field reversal is possible, Adams Rite recommends following the specific 4510/4530 rehanding instructions because the procedure is more involved than simply rotating the latchbolt.
Standard Strike
The standard strike supplied with the 4510 is:
4902-01
This strike is intended for a flat jamb where the door closes flush or nearly flush.
4901 Retrofit Strike
The longer:
4901 Strike
is available for retrofit applications where an existing MS® Deadlock strike preparation needs to be covered.
The 4901 is particularly useful when converting an opening from an MS deadlock to a deadlatch.
Additional Strike Options
Other compatible configurations are available for:
-
Radius opposite stiles on paired doors
-
Center-hung doors
-
Extended-lip applications
-
Specialty frame profiles
Always verify the door and frame geometry before ordering.
Mortise Cylinder
The 4510 accepts a standard:
1" Long x 1-5/32" Diameter Mortise Cylinder
with:
Adams Rite MS® Cam

-

-
1/2" latchbolt throw
-
Standard-duty traffic-control application
-
Four backsets, including 7/8"
4900 Heavy Duty
-
5/8" solid-brass latchbolt
-
5/8" throw
-
Designed for heavier-duty commercial applications
Choose the series based on the required traffic level, security, and existing door preparation.
4510 vs. 4530
The 4510 and 4530 operate similarly.
The primary difference is the faceplate preparation.
The 4530 uses an oversized faceplate intended primarily for retrofitting older MS® preparations, while the 4510 uses the standard current-style preparation and is preferred for most new installations.

Traffic-Control Holdback Function
The Adams Rite 4510 provides flexible control of a commercial entrance.
To place the opening into free-swinging operation, the latchbolt is fully depressed and retained with a reverse turn of the key.
This allows the entrance to provide two-way traffic during business hours while permitting the latch to be returned to normal operation after hours.
This makes the 4510 especially useful for:
-
Retail storefronts
-
Office buildings
-
Banks
-
Healthcare facilities
-
Schools
-
Commercial entrances
-
Buildings requiring controlled daytime access
31/32" Backset
This exact model features a:
31/32" Cylinder Backset
Backset is measured from the front edge of the door to the centerline of the cylinder.
Always verify the existing backset before ordering because Adams Rite 4510 deadlatches are manufactured in multiple backset configurations.
Deadlocking Latchbolt
The 4510 uses a spring-loaded latchbolt with an auxiliary deadlocking feature.
Latchbolt Size: 1/2" × 1"
Latchbolt Throw: 1/2"
The auxiliary bolt deadlocks the latchbolt when the door is closed, helping resist attempts to manipulate the latch with a card or similar object.
Flat Faceplate
This model uses a flat faceplate measuring approximately:
1" wide × 6-7/8" high
The flat faceplate is commonly used with narrow-stile aluminum storefront door applications.
4901 Mortised Strike
The 4510-25-101-628 configuration includes the:
4901 4-5/8" Mortised Flat Strike
The 4901's longer faceplate is particularly useful for retrofit applications because it can cover the strike preparation left by compatible Adams Rite MS® deadlock installations.
Cylinder Requirements
The Adams Rite 4510 accepts a compatible standard mortise cylinder with an MS® cam.
Typical cylinder specifications:
-
1" cylinder length
-
1-5/32" cylinder diameter
-
Adams Rite MS® cam
Compatible mortise cylinders and thumbturns are sold separately.
628 Clear Anodized Finish
The 628 finish provides the familiar clear-anodized / satin-aluminum appearance commonly used on commercial aluminum storefront doors and frames.
