Upgrade a mechanical storefront opening to electronic access control with the Adams Rite Steel Hawk® 4300 Electrified Deadlatch.
Designed specifically for narrow-stile aluminum entrance doors, the Steel Hawk 4300 fits standard Adams Rite MS® door preparations and can replace compatible MS® Deadlocks, 4500 Series Deadlatches, and 4900 Series Deadlatches without modifying the door stile.
The 4300 combines a heavy-duty stainless-steel latchbolt with 12, 16, or 24 VDC fail-secure operation, making it an excellent retrofit solution for card readers, keypads, access-control systems, and other electronically controlled commercial entrances.

Current Enhanced 4300 Design
Adams Rite enhanced the Steel Hawk 4300 platform in 2026 with a redesigned latch assembly and internal improvements.
The updated design is engineered to:
-
Reduce opening force
-
Improve latch operation
-
Better accommodate door sag
-
Improve performance on slightly misaligned openings
-
Extend useful service life of existing storefront doors
-
Maintain reliable access-control operation as openings age
This makes the Steel Hawk especially useful for retrofit installations where an existing aluminum storefront door may no longer be perfectly aligned.
Fail-Secure Operation
The Steel Hawk 4300 is available in:
Fail Secure Only
When Power Is Removed
The exterior side remains locked.
When Voltage Is Applied
The electrified mechanism allows the latchbolt to be retracted by the compatible exterior operating trim.
Interior egress remains mechanically available through the proper Adams Rite handle or paddle configuration.
Electrical Specifications
The 4300 is field selectable for:
-
12 VDC
-
16 VDC
-
24 VDC
Current Draw
12 VDC: Approximately 0.44A
16 VDC: Approximately 0.458A
24 VDC: Approximately 0.23A
Important 16V Note
A:
VA 7400-16VDC Adapter
is required when operating the lock from a 16 VDC source.
Duty
Continuous Duty
This allows the lock to be used with timed access-control applications without requiring momentary-only activation.
Access-Control Applications
The Steel Hawk 4300 can interface with compatible:
-
Card readers
-
Keypads
-
Access-control panels
-
Request-to-enter systems
-
Time clocks
-
Intercom systems
-
Remote door-release controls
-
Building security systems
Applying the proper voltage releases the electrified locking mechanism for controlled entry.
Interior Egress
The 4300 remains mechanically operable from the inside through compatible Adams Rite trim.
Available trim options include:
-
4560 Deadlatch Handle
-
4565 Deadlatch Handle
-
4568 Eurostyle Handle
-
4569 Eurostyle Handle
-
4590 Paddle
-
4591 Paddle

4600 Deadlatch Handle
This allows occupants to exit mechanically without relying on electrical power for normal egress.
Important 4600M Note
The:
4600M Handle with Monitoring Switch
cannot be used in conjunction with the Steel Hawk 4300.
If latch-status monitoring is required, specify the 4300M monitored lock configuration instead.
Optional 4300M Monitoring
The 4300M version adds an optional:
Form C Latch Status Monitor
This allows a compatible access-control or security system to monitor the position of the latch.
Possible uses include:
-
Door-status reporting
-
Security monitoring
-
Access-control logic
-
Alarm integration
-
Building management integration
Stainless-Steel Latchbolt
The latchbolt measures approximately:
5/8" x 1"
with a:
5/8" Throw
The stainless-steel construction provides durability for frequent commercial use.
Auxiliary Deadlatch
An all-metal auxiliary bolt deadlocks the main latchbolt when the door is properly closed against the strike.
This helps prevent attempts to manipulate the latch using:
-
Cards
-
Knives
-
Similar objects
commonly referred to as loiding or case-knife entry.
Backset Options
The Steel Hawk 4300 is available with:
-
31/32" Backset
-
1-1/8" Backset
-
1-1/2" Backset
Always match the new lock to the existing door preparation.
MS® Prep Retrofit
One of the biggest advantages of the 4300 is its compatibility with standard Adams Rite MS® Prep aluminum doors.
It can replace compatible existing:
-
MS® Deadlocks
-
4500 Series Deadlatches
-
4900 Series Deadlatches
without cutting or drilling the door stile when the existing preparation is compatible.
This can substantially reduce installation time when converting an existing mechanical storefront opening to electronic access control.
Mortise Cylinder Compatibility
The lock accepts a standard:
1" long x 1-5/32" diameter mortise cylinder
equipped with an Adams Rite MS® cam.
Compatible examples include:
-
Adams Rite 4036 Mortise Cylinder
-
Adams Rite 4066 Thumbturn
