Extend the cold-weather operating range of a compatible Aiphone IS Series entrance or rescue-assistance station with the Aiphone IS-HTR Heater & Thermostat Module.
The IS-HTR mounts directly behind compatible IS Series stations and uses an integrated thermostat to automatically provide heat during low-temperature conditions.
With the IS-HTR installed, compatible stations can operate in temperatures as low as -40°F (-40°C), making the module ideal for exterior entrances, parking facilities, emergency stations, loading areas, and other installations exposed to severe winter weather.
The Aiphone IS Series is discontinued, so the IS-HTR is primarily intended for maintenance, repair, or cold-weather upgrades of existing IS Series installations.

Automatic Thermostat
The heater does not need to be manually switched on and off during normal operation.
The built-in thermostat automatically controls the heater.
Heater Turns On
Approximately:
59°F / 15°C
Heater Turns Off
Approximately:
77°F / 25°C
This allows the IS-HTR to provide heat only when the thermostat detects sufficiently low temperatures.
25-Watt Heater Element
The IS-HTR incorporates a:
23.04Ω Resistive, Non-Inductive Heater Element
with a reference output of approximately:
25 Watts at 24V
The heater is intended to warm the rear of the station electronics and help maintain reliable operation in extremely cold conditions.
24V AC/DC Operation
The IS-HTR operates from:
24V AC or 24V DC
Aiphone recommends the:
PS-2420UL – 24VDC 2A Power Supply
for applicable installations.
The heater receives its power through factory flying leads.
Separate Power Requirement
The IS-HTR requires its own 24V AC/DC power connection.
When the same power supply is used for both the station and heater, the installer must account for:
-
Heater current
-
Station current
-
Wire gauge
-
Cable length
-
Allowable voltage drop
The complete connected load must remain within the capacity of the selected power supply.
Wiring Distance
Aiphone's IS-HTR instructions provide the following approximate maximum wiring distances based on a 10% maximum allowable voltage drop at 24V / 25W:
10 AWG: Up to 1,150 ft
11 AWG: Up to 725 ft
14 AWG: Up to 455 ft
16 AWG: Up to 285 ft
18 AWG: Up to 180 ft
22 AWG: Up to 70 ft
Always verify conductor requirements against the complete connected load.
Surface-Mount Installation
For compatible surface-mount IS Series stations:
-
Position the IS-HTR behind the door station
-
Keep the orange conformal / gasket side facing the station
-
Route the station wiring through the center wiring opening
-
Connect the IS-HTR flying leads to 24V AC/DC
-
Mount the heater and station together using the station's existing hardware
The metal side of the heater faces the wall.
There should be no gap between the station and heater after installation.
Flush-Mount Installation
The IS-HTR can also be installed behind compatible flush-mounted IS Series stations.
For applicable stations:
-
Remove the station chassis from the front panel
-
Position the IS-HTR behind the station
-
Route wiring through the heater opening
-
Secure the heater using the station's existing nuts and washers
-
Connect the heater to 24V AC/DC
-
Mount the combined station/heater assembly to the appropriate back box
This allows the heater to remain hidden behind the stainless-steel station face.
Compatible IS Series Stations
Aiphone's IS Series catalog lists the IS-HTR for compatible stations including:
-

Compatibility should be verified against the exact installed station.
Not Compatible with IS-SS-2G
The IS-HTR is not designed for the IS-SS-2G compact 2-gang station.
The physical size and mounting arrangement of the compact 2-gang station do not accommodate the standard IS-HTR heater plate.
Not Compatible with IS-SSR-2G
Aiphone's later IS Series catalog also excludes the:
IS-SSR-2G
from IS-HTR compatibility.
For either compact 2-gang station, do not assume the IS-HTR can be adapted or field-modified to fit.
Rescue Assistance Station Installation Note
When installing the IS-HTR with an IS Series rescue-assistance station, Aiphone specifically instructs installers not to route the external relay-board wires through the IS-HTR wiring opening.
Route these conductors according to the specific rescue-station installation instructions.
This helps avoid interference with the heater assembly and relay wiring.
IS-DV / IS-IPDV Surface Stations
The IS-HTR can be installed behind compatible surface-mounted stations such as:
-
IS-DV
-
IS-IPDV
The heater and station mount together as one assembly using the door station's original mounting hardware.
IS-DVF / IS-IPDVF Flush Stations
Compatible flush-mounted stations include:
-
IS-DVF
-
IS-IPDVF
For these installations, the IS-HTR mounts behind the station chassis and remains concealed inside the finished entrance assembly.
Rescue Assistance Applications
The IS-HTR was also intended for many of Aiphone's IS Series emergency and rescue-assistance stations.
This is particularly useful because these stations are frequently installed in exposed locations such as:
-
Parking decks
-
Areas of refuge
-
Exterior emergency towers
-
Building exits
-
Campus walkways
-
Transportation facilities
Optional Site-Wide Temperature Control
Aiphone's IS-HTR installation instructions recommend considering a site-wide temperature controller for installations using multiple heater modules.
This can prevent unnecessary heater operation during seasons when heating is not needed.
Reducing unnecessary thermostat cycling may also help extend the service life of the heater modules.
Power Supply Considerations
When multiple IS-HTR modules are powered from one supply, calculate the combined heater load.
Each IS-HTR is approximately:
25 Watts at 24V
Multiple heaters can therefore create a significant load.
The number of heaters connected to one power supply must be calculated against:
-
Available power-supply output
-
Station power consumption
-
Cable distance
-
Wire gauge
-
Voltage drop
Do not simply connect multiple heaters to a PS-2420UL without performing the load calculation.
IS-HTR Dimensions
The heater plate measures approximately:
8-7/16" High
×
4-1/8" Wide
×
3/8" Deep
The central wiring provision allows the intercom station wiring to pass through the heater assembly.
Legacy / Discontinued IS Series
The Aiphone IS Series was discontinued:
June 30, 2021
The IS-HTR should therefore primarily be considered for:
-
Existing IS Series systems
-
Replacement applications
-
Repair inventory
-
Cold-weather retrofits
-
Legacy-system maintenance
-
New-old-stock replacement requirements
It should not normally be specified as part of a new intercom system design.
Current-System Consideration
For new IP security intercom installations, Aiphone's current platforms include:
-
IX Series
-
IXG Series
The IS-HTR should not be assumed compatible with current-generation stations unless Aiphone specifically documents that combination.
Its intended application is the legacy IS Series station family.
