Expand relay and input capabilities while moving critical door-control connections to a protected interior location with the Aiphone IXW-MAA Multi-Purpose I/O Adaptor.
Designed for Aiphone IX and IXG Series IP intercom systems, the IXW-MAA provides 10 programmable Form C dry-contact relay outputs and 4 contact inputs through a single PoE-powered network device.
The relay outputs can be associated with compatible IX / IXG stations and programmed to change state when the corresponding station relay activates. This makes the IXW-MAA especially useful for relocating electric-lock, gate, signaling, and access-control connections away from exposed exterior door stations and into a secure equipment room.

Multi-Purpose Relay Adaptor
The IXW-MAA adds a centralized bank of relay outputs and contact inputs to an IX / IXG network.
Instead of depending solely on the physical relay located at an entrance station, the installer can locate the IXW-MAA in a secure area such as:
-
Security room
-
Access-control room
-
Electrical room
-
Telecommunications closet
-
Low-voltage enclosure
-
Server / network room
This can significantly improve the physical security of door-release wiring.
10 Form C Relay Outputs
The IXW-MAA provides:
10 Form C Dry-Contact Relay Outputs
Each relay provides:
-
Normally Open
-
Common
-
Normally Closed
Each relay is rated:
24V AC/DC, 500mA
The outputs can interface with compatible low-voltage equipment or external control relays.
Secure Door-Release Relay Location
One of the primary applications for the IXW-MAA is relocating the door-release relay away from the exterior entrance.
Without a remote relay adaptor, door-release contacts may be physically located at the door station.
With the IXW-MAA, the associated relay can instead be located:
Inside the secured side of the building
This can make it more difficult for someone to gain access by removing or tampering with the exterior intercom station.
Relay Association
IXW-MAA outputs can be associated with specific compatible IX / IXG stations.
When the programmed relay on the associated station changes state, the corresponding IXW-MAA relay can also change state.
This is useful for functions such as:
-
Door release
-
Gate control
-
External signaling
-
Auxiliary relay activation
-
Access-control interfaces
Multiple Relays per Station
A compatible station can be associated with more than one IXW-MAA relay when required.
When multiple IXW-MAA relays are assigned to the same source station event, those assigned outputs can operate together.
This can be useful when one door-release command must control multiple interfaces.
Door Release Applications
The IXW-MAA is particularly useful for controlling compatible locking equipment.
Applications may include:
-
Electric strikes
-
Magnetic locks through appropriate relay/power arrangements
-
Electrified exit-device interfaces
-
Gate operators
-
Access-control relays
-
Door-control interfaces
The IXW-MAA relay itself is limited to:
24V AC/DC, 500mA
Higher-current equipment must be controlled through a properly rated external relay.
Four Contact Inputs
The IXW-MAA also provides:
4 Contact Inputs
These inputs can be programmed for supported IX / IXG functions.
Depending on system design, external contacts can be used to initiate programmed actions through the intercom system.
Possible input devices may include:
-
Push buttons
-
Alarm contacts
-
Door contacts
-
Access-control outputs
-
Security-system outputs
-
Other dry-contact devices
Actual function depends on IX / IXG system programming.
Access-Control Integration
The IXW-MAA can simplify integration between the Aiphone intercom system and third-party access-control equipment.
For example:
-
Visitor calls from an entrance station
-
Security answers the intercom call
-
Security activates door release
-
The associated IXW-MAA relay changes state
-
The IXW-MAA provides the control signal to the access-control or lock circuit
This allows the physical relay interface to remain near the access-control panel.
Electric Strike Control
For a compatible low-current electric strike or external lock relay, a Form C output can provide:
-
Normally Open operation
-
Normally Closed operation
depending on the lock-control design.
Always verify the connected equipment remains within the IXW-MAA's:
24V AC/DC, 500mA
rating.
Magnetic Lock Applications
Magnetic locks generally require fail-safe power-control arrangements and may draw more current than the IXW-MAA contact rating permits.
For these applications, use the IXW-MAA to control:
-
External lock relay
-
Access-control panel input
-
Listed power-supply trigger
rather than switching a high-current magnetic lock directly when the load exceeds the relay rating.
Life-safety and egress requirements must always be maintained.
Gate Control
A relay can also be used as a dry-contact input to compatible:
-
Gate operators
-
Parking gates
-
Vehicle-access controllers
-
Barrier-arm systems
The IXW-MAA can therefore allow an Aiphone answering station to remotely activate an entrance gate through the IX / IXG system.
External Signaling
Relay outputs can also be used for compatible signaling functions such as:
-
External buzzer
-
Indicator light
-
Building-management input
-
Security-system input
-
Auxiliary annunciation
An external power source may be required for the signaling device.
PoE Power
The IXW-MAA operates from:
IEEE 802.3af Class 0 PoE
Maximum power consumption:
4.48 Watts
This allows both network communication and operating power to use a single Ethernet connection.
A compatible PoE network switch or injector is required.
Ethernet Network Connection
Network interface:
10BASE-T / 100BASE-TX Ethernet
The IXW-MAA operates as an IP device on the IX / IXG network.
Use:
-
CAT-5e
-
CAT-6
network cabling according to the project network requirements.
Standard Ethernet Distance
The normal Ethernet maximum between the IXW-MAA and the network switch or other Ethernet node is:
330 ft / 100 m
Longer distances require suitable network-extension equipment or additional Ethernet infrastructure.
IEEE 802.1X
The IXW-MAA supports:
IEEE 802.1X Port Security
This allows compatible managed networks to authenticate the adaptor before granting network access.
This is particularly useful for:
-
Corporate networks
-
Government facilities
-
Healthcare facilities
-
Schools
-
Universities
-
Higher-security facilities
IX Support Tool Programming
The IXW-MAA can be programmed using the applicable:
IX Support Tool
Programming can associate relay outputs with IX Series devices and configure supported input/output behavior.
System configuration should be backed up after programming.
IXG Support Tool
The IXW-MAA is also supported in appropriate:
IXG Series
installations.
This allows the adaptor to provide remote relay functionality for supported IXG entrance and system equipment.
AiphoneCloud Remote Management
Current Aiphone Remote Management workflows also support IXW-MAA configuration.
Within Remote Management, the IXW-MAA appears as an:
I/O Adaptor
Compatible door or entrance stations can be assigned to its relay outputs, allowing the relay relationships to be managed as part of the site's system configuration.
Wall Mounting
The IXW-MAA can mount directly to a wall using the mounting points built into the enclosure.
This is useful when installing the adaptor inside:
-
Access-control rooms
-
Electrical rooms
-
Telecom closets
-
Low-voltage backboards
DIN Rail Mounting
The IXW-MAA can also mount to a:
170mm DIN Rail
This provides an organized installation alongside other low-voltage controllers and access-control equipment.
Approximate DIN rail dimensions:
35 mm W × 169.9 mm L
Indoor Installation
The IXW-MAA is intended for protected indoor controller locations.
Operating temperature:
14°F to 122°F
or:
-10°C to 50°C
Do not install the IXW-MAA outdoors or in areas directly exposed to rain or moisture unless it is installed within an appropriate listed enclosure.
Compact Controller Size
The IXW-MAA measures:
4-1/4" H × 8-1/4" W × 2-3/8" D
Its compact size allows installation near:
-
Access-control panels
-
Door-power supplies
-
Network equipment
-
Security controllers
